Why A CNA Certification Is Important To Your Nursing Career

A CNA certification is required in order to obtain a job in the field of nursing. It's a huge indicator of a person's commitment to a nursing career. Having passion and dedication to serving and helping others is important in this field. In order to obtain a CNA certification, it is essential that you have a high school diploma or GED.

If you want to become a successful certified nursing assistant, it is mandatory that you pass the CNA examination. The first step is to enroll in a CNA program, attend classes, graduate, and then finally get the certification degree. Upon graduation, you have to apply for a license from a governing authority. Without a license, you are unable to apply for any nursing job.

There are several benefits to becoming a CNA including job security, opportunities for growth, and an excellent salary package. Once you become a CNA you will have the necessary skills needed to advance in the medical field as a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). It is recommended that you obtain your CNA certification first so that you can apply for a position as a certified nursing assistant in any medical organization or health care institute.

How To Write A Resume For A Certified Nursing Assistant Job

Learning how to write a resume when applying for a job as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is an important matter. Before you begin your job search, you need to draft a well thought out resume that will grab the attention of a recruiter or hiring manager. There's no particular resume format that you should follow, but it is essential that you highlight your key qualifications, experience and professional background in an effective manner.

Like any resume, a CNA resume should include your career objective, education, professional experience, job duties and responsibilities from previous positions, skills, achievements, contact information, and personal details. When discussing previous work experience, be sure to use bullet points so that your summary comes across in an organized well written manner. It's imperative that you proofread your resume before submitting it potential employers. Check for formatting issues, spelling errors, pronunciation, and poor grammar. Keep sentences short and simple. Avoid using jargon or slang. If you're having trouble with formatting or grammar, take your resume to a career counselor for a second opinion. Remember that your resume is the key to getting interviews. Always put your best foot forward.

Finally, search for sample drafts resumes online to get a general idea of how the document should be formatted. Below is an example of a certified nursing assistant resume.

Ten Commandments of Being A CNA

Are you thinking about becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) but you're not sure what to
expect on the first day on the job? Nothing can really prepare you for being a caregiver. No two days are alike, and no two patients are alike either. As a CNA your role is to help patients with their personal hygiene and daily needs, provide comfort, transportation, and monitor vital signs. This job is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others.

We've put together a list of CNA do's and don'ts and help make your first day run a lot smoother.

  1. Wash your hands, often.
  2. Give residents privacy. Knock on the door before entering their room. Leave the room when they have a phone call. Don't talk or gossip about them to other patients or staff.
  3. Answer call lights. You never when there's a real emergency.
  4. Don't force feed patients. Be gentle with them and respect their wishes.
  5. Don't double diaper patients. No brainer.
  6. Don't give patients medication of any kind. You can risk losing your job.
  7. Turn off your phone and electronic devices. Be professional at all times.
  8. Treat your patients with respect. Be kind to them.
  9. Don't abandon your floor if you're the only person working
  10. Listen to the Registered Nurse (RN), do what they tell you to do. Are you thinking about becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), but you're not sure what to expect on the first day at work? Nothing can really prepare you for being a caregiver. No two days are alike and no two patients are alike either. Dosage Calculations For Nurses

As a nursing student, you will learn a lot about how to properly care for patients. You'll learn fundamental skills such as starting IVs, changing beds, inserting catheters, and dispensing medications. One thing that many nurses struggle with is dosage calculation. Nursing competence when it comes to dosage has been a major issue in the healthcare community. Basic math skills are required to determine how many tablets to administer to a patient. Developing calculation skills requires practice and the ability to understand and convert volumes, weights, and times. A simple miscalculation in dosage can lead to permanent and often fatal errors.

Drug calculations may appear difficult at first. But breaking them out into simple step by step formulas will make the process much easier. This video looks at common dosage errors and explains how to simplify them.
