Dosage Calculations For Nurses

As a nursing student, you will learn a lot about how to properly care for patients. You'll learn fundamental skills such as starting IVs, changing beds, inserting catheters, and dispensing medications. One thing that many nurses struggle with is dosage calculation. Nursing competence when it comes to dosage has been a major issue in the healthcare community. Basic math skills are required to determine how many tablets to administer to a patient. Developing calculation skills requires practice and the ability to understand and convert volumes, weights, and times. A simple miscalculation in dosage can lead to permanent and often fatal errors.

Drug calculations may appear difficult at first. But breaking them out into simple step by step formulas will make the process much easier. This video looks at common dosage errors and explains how to simplify them.
