Certified Nursing Assistant Needs To Know

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) helps with patients and clients with healthcare needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Nursing assistants work in different areas such as a nursing home, hospital, assistant living centers and adult day care centers. They serve as a liaison between the patient and the RN or LPN.

The role of a CNA is to improve the quality of life of the patient. They keep track of vital information regarding the patient's health. The environment intends to be intense and fast-paced requiring a desire to help others with compassion.

The daily responsibilities of a CNA include:

  • Clean or sanitize patient rooms, bathrooms, and examination rooms
  • Document and report patient behavior, complaints, and physical symptoms to nurses
